Two Measles Cases Reported In Ft. Wayne; Area Shoppers Could Be At Risk

FT. WAYNE,Indiana – On Friday of last week, the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health issued a measles exposure. The first person to come down with measles in Allen County in seven years has occurred. There was a possibility of exposure and the Department is warning area residents. Shoppers and employees could have been exposed at the Maysville Road Kohl’s and Walmart on May 18th between 5 and 8:30pm. The Health Department is warning those individuals who may have been at those locations on that day to monitor themselves until June 8th, primarily those who have not been vaccinated for the measles-mumps & rubella vaccine.

Measles is a highly contagious virus which is spread through the air through coughing and sneezing. It usually takes 7-14 days for the symptoms to appear but can take 21 days. If you develop symptoms contact your healthcare provider.
