There will no longer be Mass Physicals Offered at Wabash County Schools

Sports examinations are not a substitute for a thorough medical examination. Each year, teenage student athletes are required to undergo a physical exam that determines his or her ability to safely participate in middle school and high school sports. The primary care providers at Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) feel strongly that this is not enough. The prior practice of pre-participation exams being done in a noisy gymnasium by orthopedic surgeons and their assistants is not acceptable. PPG and Parkview Sports Medicine (PSM) feel that this change is necessary to improve the overall health care of each individual student. PPG has agreed to champion this movement, and we are working collaboratively with them to make this as seamless of a transition as we can. Their primary care physicians, including their pediatricians and physician extenders, are willing to see these athletes with an appointment and are aware that this initiative will be a change for their offices as well. PPG has and will continue to provide excellent care for all of our athletes and we are excited for this partnership with them.

Student-athletes whose physicals are dated PRIOR to April of 2018 are encouraged to schedule wellness visits with their primary care physicians EARLY. These wellness visits (dated AFTER April 1, 2018) will be valid through the 2018 – 2019 school year.

As always, student-athletes will need a completed physical on file BEFORE you will be allowed to participate in summer open gyms or conditioning.
