Peru Out But Warsaw Still In Running For 2016 Stellar Designation

PERU,Indiana – Well, they tried again this year but Peru did not make the cut to gain a 2016 Stellar Communities Designation. The word came out Wednesday and it was a disappointment to those waiting for the announcement. Mayor Gabriel Greer said that he thinks that being new to office hurt their chances the most as far as progress for the grant. Among the future projects on the application were: Riverwalk Trail Extensions to the east and west, along with a number of other trail enhancements. Improvements to the Canal Street and Holman corridors were also in the plan, as well as Façade improvements to buildings in downtown just to name a few.

The mayor said at this point they don’t know if Peru will apply for the grant next year.

As you may remember Wabash earned the Stellar City Designation in 2014.  Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb announced Tuesday that Warsaw is still in the running as one of six vying to be one of the two Stellar Community Cities named for 2016.
