Native Pollinator and Host Plants Workshop at Salamonie Lake

ANDREWS, IN- Mark your calendars for Jake Wyatt’s Native Pollinator and Host Plants Workshop, August 19, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Salamonie Lake’s interpretive / nature center. The public is invited.

Returning workshop presenter Jake Wyatt will share his knowledge of local pollinators and host plants, two extremely important components of a healthy and stable environment. Wyatt, an Indiana Master Naturalist and Huntington County native, is passionate about native plants and sharing his knowledge with others. Wyatt owns and operates Wyatt Way Landscapes, a landscaping business with designs focusing on native plants. Wyatt can also be found selling his native plants, grown in his certified plant nursery, at Huntington Farmer’s Market.

“No two workshops are alike,” Teresa Rody, interpretive naturalist for Upper Wabash Interpretive Services said of Jake’s workshops. “Return participants will learn new and exciting things during each of Jake’s workshops, even if you’ve previously attended one of his similar workshops.”

The workshop will begin in the Interpretive Center’s classroom with a presentation about local native plants and their pollinators, and host plants for the pollinator’s larvae. The remainder of the workshop will be a hike along Salamonie Lake’s trails identifying some of these plant species and searching for their pollinators and their offspring.

Workshop cost is $10 per person, cash or check made out to Friends of Upper Wabash Interpretive Services (Friends of UWIS), payable day of workshop.

Space is limited; advance registration requested by calling 260-468-2127.

Participants should dress for the weather, bring a reusable water bottle, etc.
