MSD of Wabash County School Board Meeting Review

WABASH COUNTY, IN- The MSD of Wabash County School Board met to conduct business on Tuesday night. Donations were approved in a total amount of $569.01. 

Congratulations were shared to all the students who completed the 2021-2022 school year. This summer, over 200 students will participate in the various MSDWC summer programming.

The 2022-2023 school year will begin on August 10, 2022. Registration for the 2022-2023 school year will be available online from July 25 through August 1, with onsite registration on August 1, 2022, from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Miss Lindsay Knee, Southwood Jr/Sr High Choir and Band Director, was honored as the recipient of the Staff Spotlight Award. Miss Knee was nominated by student Aubrey Carey with these words:

“Ms. Knee loves what she does as a teacher. She is so nice she has helped me so much. She loves to interact with the students and make them smile. She makes me smile every day. I am so thankful that she filled in for Mr. Hickman when he retired. She has helped me so much as a student and I am so thankful for her. ”

SCHOOL RECOGNITION

Northfield Jr./Sr. High School 

Congratulations were shared to Ainsley Dale, Emily Pennington, and Jake Halderman for the honors they received at the TRC Banquet last Wednesday. Jake and Emily each received the Mental Attitude Award, and Ainsley received the Scholar Athlete and Distinguished Academic Honor Awards. 

Northfield Senior Mya Hunter was awarded the Wabash Kiwanis Club/Midwest Eye Consultants Self-Reliance Award last Tuesday. She will use this $1000 to get her started as she pursues a social work degree from Ball State University next Fall.

On May 10th, two Northfield Seniors took home awards at the Wabash County INovate Pitch Competition.  Congratulations were shared to Heath Tackett – 1st Place and Annie Schuler – 2nd Place.

Ty Leming and Ruby Weaver each received Jr. High Citizenship awards at our Jr. High Awards day at Northfield. These are very distinguished and important awards because they are in honor of past NHS students Jonathan Snyder and Rhonda Shaw. These are awards that are received because of how these students treat staff and their fellow classmates as well as their hard work.  

Southwood Jr./Sr. High School

Congratulations were shared to Mo Lloyd for being named Baseball Across Indiana High School Player of the Week. In his last five games, he was 9-15 with 7 homeruns and 20 RBIs. 

Southwood recognized teachers Angie Loschiavo and Tyler Cook for their work coordinating the 8th-grade field trip to Washington, DC. The students were able to visit various Smithsonian museums, the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Site, the Lincoln Memorial, the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial, and many other significant historical landmarks.  

Southwood recognized Miss Eagan who will be retiring after 43 years of service to MSD. Miss Eagan served as a special education teacher but fulfilled so many different roles in the school. 

Southwood also proudly announced that seniors Joey Bland and Mya Denney have been nominated for the Albright Gemlick Excellence Scholarship. This $8,000 scholarship honors exceptional senior student-athletes who have demonstrated excellence on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.  

School Board meetings are live-streamed through the MSD of Wabash County Facebook page and available on the MSD of Wabash County YouTube channel at a later date. Minutes from each board meeting are also posted online at msdwc.org/about/board/minutes-agenda.
