Individual suffers from self-inflicted gunshot wound in Huntington

HUNTINGTON, IN- Saturday at approximately 1:10 P.M. the Huntington Police Department received a report of a pickup truck pulling a boat which had pulled into a parking lot in the 1800 block of Business 24. 

The driver of the pickup truck pulled up to another vehicle, brandished a firearm and pointed it at the other individual.

The driver of the second vehicle immediately left the parking lot and drove to the Huntington Police Department to report the incident.

At approximately 1:25 P.M. law enforcement officers with the Huntington City Police Department and the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 1900 block of W. Park Dr. in reference to a pickup truck pulling a boat which had parked in the roadway.  The driver of the truck was reported to be suffering from a medical emergency.  The vehicle is believed to be the same pickup truck from the earlier call.

Upon officer contact, the driver appeared to be suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Officers were able to secure the scene and provide medical aid to the driver.  No officers discharged their firearms at any point during this incident.

Medics from Parkview EMS arrived along with First Responders from the Huntington City Fire Department who continued medical treatment.  The driver was transported to a Ft. Wayne hospital with critical injuries.

The names of the individuals involved are not being released at this time.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further details will be released.
