Hazel F. Cornman, 78, of Marion, passed away at 7:00 am on Monday, April 29, 2024. She was born in Jonesville, Virginia, on Wednesday, January 9, 1946, to Russell and Maxie (Kelly) Kirk. She married Bennie L. Cornman and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2022.
Hazel graduated from High School in Jonesville, Virginia. She was a hairdresser in her younger years and had worked briefly at Foster Forbes and RCA as well. She was most proud of being a homemaker and taking care of her family. Hazel liked spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to go shopping, especially at Goodwill, and have lunch with family.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan M. (Doug) Smith of La Follette, TN; granddaughters, Brittain (Buck) Varney and Codi (Bobby) Rose; great-grandchildren, Turner Nathan Varney, Hazel Joann Varney; brothers, Denver Kirk and Walter (Ferl) Kirk; sisters, Thelma Kirk, Lucy Alsup and Lillie Sternfield; several nieces, nephews and friends; as well as her beloved cats, Mama Kitty, Blackie and Frisky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Maxie Kirk; husband, Bennie L. Cornman; brothers, Ernest Kirk, Oscar Kirk and Doyle Kirk; and sisters, Mildred King and Blanche Kirk.
The family will receive visitors from 10:30 am to 11:30 am on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Hazel’s life will begin at 11:30 am with Pastor Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
