Ruth A. McFarren, 82, of La Fontaine, passed away at 7:48 am on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Rolling Meadows Health & Rehabilitation Center in LaFontaine. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Saturday, May 31, 1941, to John and Theda (Schultz) Gordon. On September 29, 1959, she married John Wesley McFarren, and he preceded her in death.
Ruth worked in food service for Marion Community Schools and Marion VA Hospital. She was a member of the American Legion in Van Buren, Red Hat Society, and Euchre Club. Ruth enjoyed arts and crafts, shopping, and camping. She loved to travel and had been to all 50 states. Ruth was an excellent cook and liked to make meals for her family. She loved spending the holidays with her family.
Ruth is survived by her son, Norman (Joy) McFarren of Marion; daughter, Kimberly (Jay) Carroll of Marion; grandchildren, Brandon (Kaleigh) McFarren, Lacey McFarren, Aaron (Jody Bush) Carroll, and Jayla (Jarek) Fishbaugh; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Late Charles) Coombs of Macy; sister-in-law, Joyce Bowerman; plus, several nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Alvin Gordon; mother, Theda A. Gordon; husband, John Wesley McFarren; brothers, Dean Gordon, Robert Gordon, Gene Gordon, and Earl Gordon; and sister, Virginia Heisey.
At Ruth’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service.
