PRESS RELEASE

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Commissioner, Brandye Hendrickson, and Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb, yesterday announced the Northern Indiana awards in the Community Crossings Grant program in New Haven, Indiana.

The City of Wabash applied for and received $1 Million dollars to reconstruct .7 mile of Wabash Street from the south entrance of O.J. Neighbors elementary school to US 24, in anticipation of the opening of Parkview Wabash Hospital.  The estimated cost of the project, which will include rebuilding the road and installing curbs, gutters, storm sewer lines, and sidewalk on the west side of the street, are estimated to be $2.0-2.5 Million.  The City will use monies returned earlier in the year from the State of Indiana as matching funds to complete the project.

The City of Wabash worked cooperatively with Parkview Hospital and their design firm Randall Miller and Associates to expand their retention pond on site to accept storm water from Wabash Street, which should alleviate flooding issues in the Salamonie Lane, Miami Street, Euclid Street area of the City by slowing the flow of rainwater that flows toward Prizer Ditch and Charley Creek.  The new street will also make travel in the area safer for our Emergency Service personnel, School buses, and the general public.  The City will work cooperatively with both Wabash City and the Metropolitan School Corporations transportation departments to insure their bus routes are minimally effected by this construction.

We plan to have this street project completed prior to the opening of Parkview Wabash Hospital which is scheduled for 2nd quarter of 2018.
