Gov. Holcomb honors local business for longevity, service to Hoosier workforce

WABASH, IN- Gov. Eric Holcomb recently presented multiple Indiana companies with the Governor’s Century or Half Century Business Award. The honor recognizes “each company’s longevity and service to its employees, community and the state.”

The awards were presented to Hoosier businesses that have remained in operation for a minimum of 100 or 50 consecutive years and have demonstrated a commitment to community service, Holcomb’s office said.

“Every year, the Century and Half-Century Awards remind me of the dedication and perseverance Hoosiers across the state bring to their businesses, and each year it is truly an honor to recognize these organizations that have withstood the test of time, navigated economic uncertainties and demonstrated unconditional commitment to their employees and communities across Indiana,” the governor said in a news release.

While the ceremony was scheduled to occur in spring 2020, it was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Award recipients from 2020-2023 were invited to participate in this year’s ceremony. Charley Creek Inn was one of 76 businesses honored from 2020.

The Georgian Revival gem opened its doors May 6, 1920, as Hotel Indiana. After falling into disrepair throughout many lively decades, the gracious hotel obtained a new lease on life in 2007, when local philanthropist and historic preservation aficionado Richard E. Ford, of the Ford Meter Box family, bought the building and renovated it to perfection.

More than 1,200 companies have received the award throughout the past 32 years.
