Dixie S. Payne

Dixie S. Payne, 76, passed away in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana on February 11, 2018. She was born in Marion to the late Forrest Leroy and Thelma (Keeling) Spencer on September 23, 1941.

Dixie graduated in 1959 from the last graduating class of Sweetser High School. After high school she attended Indiana Business College. On June 26, 1960 she married Wallace R. Payne. He survives. Dixie enjoyed genealogy, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and going to her church, Sweetser Wesleyan. She was a devoted “Days of Our Lives” fan and never missed an episode since the program began in November 1965. Dixie liked listening to Elvis and she loved to play the computer game “Bubble Shooter.”

She is survived by her children, Kimberly A. (Jerry) Perdue, Wabash; Terry (Delvis) Payne, Jacksonville, Florida; Kelly Jeffrey, Wabash; Darrell Payne, Marion; grandchildren, Gerald Payne, Wesley Payne, Kayla (Tory) Mercado; great-grandchildren, Skylar Mercado and Draven Mercado.

Dixie is also preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Spencer and Darrell Eugene Spencer.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 5-7 pm in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 11 am in the funeral home with Pastor Paul Brown officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Estates of Serenity Cemetery, Marion.
