WABASH,Indiana – Madison Rebholz has been hired as the new receptionist / office assistant for the City of Wabash. She will be leaving her current position as the tourism coordinator at Visit Wabash County to work greeting people who come in the doors at City Hall starting April 18th. Mayor Long committed to getting rid of City Hall’s automated phone service when he became mayor in January. Accordingly, Rebholz will be the human on the other end of the phone when residents call City Hall. She will also assist the city with social media posts.

In a press release, Wabash Mayor Scott Long said that her time at Visit Wabash County and training in social media give her the experience to be an asset to the city. Before the announcement was made late Thursday afternoon, MiBash News has a chance to talk to Rebholz about her new position at City Hall. She said that she found out Wednesday night she was the winning candidate of the 30 or so applicants. Rebholz, who is a Southwood High School graduate, went on to say that she worked at the Visitor’s Center for two years. She called both her job at the Visitor’s Center and her new position at City Hall “very similar.” Rebholz on whether she is excited to start her new job in a few weeks.

Rebholz said that her current boss, Visit Wabash County’s Christine Flohr, even cried when she heard the news Wednesday night. While Rebholz will be working with all the employees at City Hall, she’ll perhaps have the closest working relationship with the Mayor’s Administrative Assistant, Bev Vanderpool. Vanderpool, while not on the selection committee, seemed happy with the choice.

Vanderpool and Rebholz worked together when the former was the Visit Wabash County’s Board President up until late last year. Committee members that selected Rebholz for her new position include Mayor Long, Clerk-Treasurer Wendy Frazier, Wabash HR Director Judy Teague and the Wabash City County Ambulance Service’s Mary Anne Tait. After a false start in November, the Wabash City Council approved the new receptionist / office assistant position on March 14th.
