WABASH,Indiana – At the City of Wabash Board of Public Works meeting Tuesday afternoon, the board tabled two unsafe building hearings for properties located at 494 N. Miami Street and 1570 Webster Street. The notice of Thursday’s hearing for the N. Miami Street house, owned by Degler Properties of Pueblo, Colorado, came back as undeliverable. Because there was no service as to the date of the hearing, City Attorney Randi Zimmerman-Irgang said that the hearing must now be advertised by publication. It is expected to be on the agenda of the next BOW meeting on May 18th. On the Webster Street property, the city determined that the house is currently in a foreclosure proceeding and the unsafe building hearing was tabled, at a minimum, until that process is over.

The board also accepted the low bid of CAT Excavating, Inc., to be the contractor for the SR 13 Business Park Low Pressure Sewer Project, pending a review of the project designer, United Consulting. The project is an outgrowth of the city council voting to annex two parcels of land – including Troxel Equipment – on December 14th. In connection to the annexation, they approved a new sewer line to be extended from the Northeast Business Complex first to the 13-24 Drive-in, then underneath SR 13 to Troxel Equipment so that the business can expand and create new jobs. On Thursday, CAT Excavating submitted the lowest bid of $96,530.

The BOW also approved a Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership Permitting Excellence Coalition Agreement between the city and NIRP and HPG Network. Building Commissioner John Stephens said that the agreement allows all cities in the regional partnership to have the same forms, which will save time and money. Finally, the board approved a NIPSCO gas easement under Treaty Creek in Choketown. The change is a result of plans to replace the bridge over Treaty Creek on LaFontaine Avenue.
