WABASH, Ind. – On Tuesday, November 8th, the Wabash County YMCA will be offering free childcare to make it easier for local residents to vote. Extra staff will be available in the child watch to provide this service from 8a-8p. Those who would like to utilize this are advised to provide extra time to fill out medical releases and other forms before leaving children.

The Wabash County YMCA joins thousands of Ys across the country who are committing to the Y’s focus area of social responsibility by providing this service. “Election Day is arguably one of the most important days in the U.S. this year — the ultimate opportunity for Americans to make their voices heard through the democratic process,” YMCA of the USA President and CEO Kevin Washington said in a statement. “Unfortunately, many people who want to vote find it challenging because they have to take children with them. The Y’s hope is that the Zoe’s Kids Day Out initiative enables those parents and caregivers to exercise their right to vote, and ensures children can spend their time in a safe, nurturing environment.”

Zoe’s Kids Day Out is a part of the “Vote for Zoe” campaign, the Y’s effort to elect a one-year-old girl as our nation’s Commander in Chief…in 2064. It highlights the potential the Y sees in all kids to grow up and change the world if they’re nurtured properly and supported along the way. The Wabash County YMCA’s programs like the Wabash County Promise, SPARK (Summer Program for Awesome Reading Kids) and youth sports are all ways that the local Y seeks to empower all kids – regardless of income or background.
