Wabash Valley Dance Theater to offer Ballroom Dancing

WABASH, IN- Beginning on Mother’s Day, May 14th, WVDT will be offering ballroom dancing taught by instructor Matthew S. Smith. Classes will be for beginners and experienced dancers alike and a partner is not required! Dancers will have the opportunity to learn a variety of styles, such as the Tango, Rumba, and Foxtrot, and they will learn the technique and skills that are sure to impress on the dance floor.

The addition of ballroom dancing was something WVDT Director Melissa Ford-Kalbfell had been working to offer to the community. “There were many people who had expressed interest in ballroom dancing over the last couple of years, so I wanted to try and find a way to offer the class. In February, we had the opportunity to partner with Visit Wabash County for Dancing & Dinner, and the sold-out event definitely proved there were adults in and around our community who would take the class if it were offered on a regular basis. After I met Matthew, who has his own ballroom dance studio called Art of Dance Warsaw, the pieces just fell into place.”

The first session of ballroom dance classes will consist of eight Sunday afternoon classes between May and August. The first class will begin Sunday, May 14th from 2:00-3:00 p.m at Wabash Valley Dance Theater, 58 West Canal Street. The class schedule is listed as follows:

May 14 – Hustle

May 28 – Hustle

June 11 – Foxtrot

June 25 – Foxtrot

July 16 – Rumba

July 30 – Rumba

August 13 – Tango
