At the Wabash County Board of Commissioners meeting Monday morning, County Highway Superintendent John Martin told the commissioners that work at the intersection is almost complete.

He said that the paving is done, the traffic signs are up and that the barricades will soon come down when the road stripes are put in sometime in the next few days. When MiBash News was on scene Monday morning, there were no workers in sight. Wabash Street Department Superintendent Scott Richardson told MiBash News that the speed bumps put in around the area will come up as soon as possible after the intersection is opened.

Wabash County Sheriff Bob Land then reported to the board that there are currently 86 inmates in the Wabash County Jail with 42 overflow inmates being housed in Miami County. Land also informed that Sheriff Deputy Doug Weaver is leaving to take a position with the Indiana State Police. Deputy Weaver’s last day for the Sheriff’s Department, Land said, is May 18th.

You have to give credit to the Dyson family for their persistence. Doug Alan (Dyson) was at the commissioner’s meeting again Monday morning wanting the board to order County Clerk Elaine Martin to certify whether offices and judges are vacant on the county’s common-law court. Elaine Martin told MiBash News that, because such a court does not exist in Wabash County, she cannot certify whether there are vacancies or not. The conversation between Alan (Dyson) and County Attorney Steve Downs became slightly heated Monday morning when Downs called the legal documents brought in by Alan (Dyson) “gibberish.”

The commissioners informed Alan (Dyson) that they are not Elaine Martin’s boss and, as an elected official, they cannot order her to certify such a fact. Alan (Dyson) then asked for a claim by the Dysons be submitted to the county’s insurance company. Downs said that the county will do no such thing and, in response, Alan (Dyson) said he’ll be back next week.
