A public hearing on the 2017 budget took place Monday night before the Wabash City Council meeting.

One person, former City Council member Paul Lewis spoke during the hearing.

He urged council members to reconsider the budget, especially when it comes to pay raises for the council. He said he was speaking for several people who believed the raises were not necessary.

Lewis also said he plans to file a complaint about the budget, which is required by Indiana statute.

As it stands now, the city budget is $17,356,009. The proposed city tax rate would be $2.11145.

The council, at its regular meeting, adopted the budget on first reading. It will consider it on second reading when the council meets on Sept. 26.
