WABASH,Indiana – On the next Wabash Talks, Pastor Tom Curry talks about the Wabash Area Ministerial Association which brings together more than a dozen pastors from different churches in the community with the goal of helping the city and its residents. The origination, which has been around for approximately 25 years, prays for the mayor, city council, police and fire personnel, as well as other community leaders. Curry became President of the Association on January 1st and stressed to MiBash News that the group of pastors who have come together look at each other as friends and neighbors instead of competitors for parishioners in the pews.

In addition to praying for members of the community, one Pastor in the group has started off each city council meeting with a prayer since Mayor Long took office in January. According to Curry, the Wabash Area Ministerial Association approached the mayor with the idea of a pastor volunteering their services for a prayer before council meetings and he quickly agreed. The association meets once a week on Thursday mornings for a weekly prayer meeting for community leaders.

Getting a group of pastors to join an such an association is not easy and Curry said that there are differences among the members and that those distinctions are discussed. But what gives the group comfort is that members of the organization agree on about 90% of church teachings.

Upcoming events the Wabash Area Ministerial Association is hoping to hold include a Good Friday Service at a place yet to be determined in downtown Wabash and a Baccalaureate Service May 10th at the Honeywell Center.
