Volunteers Make Sure Wabash Is Ready For Its Close Up

WABASH,Indiana – Wabash Mayor Scott Long, employees of City Hall, members of the Wabash City Council, workers from Visit Wabash County and members of local church groups all gathered in downtown Wabash Monday morning to help clean up the streets before the Deluxe Corporation staff and Texas-based Flow Nonfiction’s video crew arrive in town Monday. The video crew is in town, of course, to start shooting the web-based TV series to debut is fall as a result of Wabash winning the Small Business Revolution on Main Street competition some 11 days ago.

This spring clean-up was organized by Bev Vanderpool, Administrative Assistant to Mayor Long and Wabash Marketplace Project Manager Shelby McLaughlin. Workers were out washing windows, sweeping up the sidewalks and blowing debris out into the street for a street sweeper to collect. Mayor Long was even seen was a power washer blasting the sidewalks outside city hall.

The 40 or so volunteers met in front of City Hall Monday morning and dispersed to various locations around town. These locations included Paradise Spring Park, the Wabash County Courthouse, the Riverwalk and Market and Canal Streets downtown. Vanderpool on what the volunteers were doing Monday morning.

Vanderpool added that volunteers might work all day to spruce up downtown. Lee Arwood describes why he came out to help.

Visit Wabash County’s Christine Flohr likened the clean-up to homeowner who tidies up a bit because their guests are do to arrive.
