The MSD of Wabash County School Board met to conduct business on Tuesday night.

Student Council report:

Southwood Jr./Sr. High School Student Council

  • Landon Topliff and Payton Deeter shared all of the exciting happenings at Southwood including the blood drive and Elementary Christmas Shopping program to supply gifts for elementary students.  The school will conduct a jar wars competition involving student leadership “repercussions” – one jar example is shaving one of the leader’s head.  

Heartland Career Center report by Mr. Matt Driscoll:

  • HCC applied for the non-standard waiver with the Indiana Department of Education to teach the new Precision Agriculture Specialist I and II program starting with the 2020-2021 school year. This is another exciting opportunity for the students attending HCC. 

Superintendent report:

  • The Indiana Department of Education released the Fall 2019-2020 Public Corporation Transfer Report.  MSD of Wabash County net gains for parent choice transfers with our eight neighboring school districts had a significant increase from 2018 to 2019 
    • Fall 2018 – 22
    • Fall 2019 – 106 
  • We want to welcome Laura Langebartels to MSD of Wabash County as our Director of Communication & Community Engagement.  Laura has communications experiences at Eagle Church in Indianapolis, Indiana Wesleyan University, and most recently at the LaFontaine Learning Community.  

Financials: 

  • The Education Fund balance for the end of October was $4.1+ million

New Business:

  • The School Board approved the 2020 Census resolution. In part, the resolution states: Be It Further Resolved, the Metropolitan School District of Wabash County is committed to working in partnership with other local civic, business, and community leaders, and others to engage, educate, and count every resident within our local community in the 2020 Census.
