The MSD of Wabash County School Board met to conduct business on Tuesday night.

Donations were accepted and approved for a total of:

Student and staff recognitions:

Northfield Jr./Sr. High School

  • NHS is very proud of Jace Randel because he was selected and recognized as a Riley Champion.

Southwood Elementary School

  • SES would like to thank our school board and the high school athletic directors for the work involved in bringing school-sponsored athletic opportunities to our elementary students, extending that to include both 5th and 6th grades this year. 

Southwood Jr./Sr. High School

  • SHS would like to recognize science teachers Reena Markstahler and Cynthia Bell. They recently applied for a grant entitled “Discover the Outdoors” through the Indiana DNR. The funds will be used to provide field trips for students to various locations in Indiana to observe wildlife and other natural wonders. We are pleased to announce that they were awarded the grant!  

Presentations:

  • Student Council Report-Southwood High School (Landon Topliff & Isabel Davis)
    • The students raised over $300 to make improvements to the courtyard.  They also shared the events of homecoming including a bonfire event. This year they are conducting two blood drives and seniors are painting their parking spots.
  • Heartland Career Center Ambassador, Lori DuBois-Precision Agriculture Specialist Program
    • Mrs. Dubois shared the exciting news about the Precision Agriculture Specialist class that will be offered at Heartland Career Center next school year.
  • White’s Jr/Sr. High School, Mike McDivitt, Principal-School Improvement Plan 
    • Mr. McDivitt shared the SIP and highlighted the SMART goals.

Superintendent report:

  1. WMAP Audit – One year audit with no issues.
  2. Dr. Bill Daggett presented Rigor and Relevance during the eLearning Day.
  3. Bachelor Creek Church of Christ – thanks for hosting our eLearning Day.  The hospitality was unbelievable!
  4. SHS Food Service was amazing assisting with the Staff Appreciation event.

Curriculum and Instruction report:

  • Mr. Drake shared the recent results of the iRead and iStep testing.  He also shared Dr. Daggett’s story and the importance of STEM relating to future careers. 

Financials: 

  • The Education Fund balance for the end August was $3.6 Million+
  • The 2020 Budget was approved.

New Business:

  • The recommendation to create a Director of Communication & Community Engagement position was approved.
