Staff Spotlight

  • Parent Heather Amos (Audrey & Skylar) nominated SHS teacher Carl Pace. She wrote…Excellent communication skills with parents and students.

Metro North Elementary School

  • Thanks to all of our bus drivers for continuously going above and beyond for our students. Two weeks ago, after we had a few inches of snow followed by a day of rain, one of our MN students fell as he went out to the bus. He was soaked through and through. His bus driver, Kim Frank, sent him back inside to change, ran her route and then came back to pick up the student. Same week, I had three students miss the bus and after dropping off his students at Metro North, Mr. Tom Garthee went and picked up those students that otherwise would have missed school due to no transportation. Our drivers are the first and last person our students see every day, and they pay close attention to details to ensure our students are home safe and sound.

  • Our Metro North Robotics team tied for second place at the Columbia Robotics Competition on Saturday. This team of ten third graders started in November with coaches that knew only slightly more than they did regarding robotics (we knew where the supplies were). These engineers continuously dream big and work hard, and we couldn’t be more proud of their problem solving, flexible thinking, patience and perseverance.

Northfield Jr./Sr. High School

  • Northfield would like to congratulate, Ellie and Erin Proebstle, Ariana and Athena Varner, and Adriana Hershberger as they participated in ISSMA’S Solo and Ensemble contest at Huntington North High School. Each of the girls took a solo and the 5 also made up an ensemble – for a total of 6 events. All 6 events went Group1 and received GOLD rating, which qualified each of them to perform again at the State level at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis on Saturday, February 16.

  • Northfield would like to congratulate Coach Allen, her staff and her team for winning the Girls’ Basketball Sectional and Regional. They did an outstanding job!

  • Jasper Donaldson won Sectional in 195 lbs. and qualified for Semi State where he ended his career in the ticket round.

  • Congratulations to Ariel Dale for being named Wabash County Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year!

MSDWC Central Office

  • Southwood and Heartland Career Center student Jonathon Dakotah Culver is in the Honeywell Multi-Media program. Dakotah is one of three finalist for the Drive Safe Chicago Public Service Announcement script writing contest on drowsy driving. A film crew from Alan Weiss Productions in New York is coming to Honeywell to film the PSA that Dakotah wrote. http://awptv.com  Then, all 3 finalists PSAs will be available for voting on the Chicago Auto Show Facebook page. The winner receives $2,000, gets free transportation to the Chicago Auto Show, and will do a press conference.

Financials:

  • General Fund balance for the end of January was +3.5 million

New Business:

  • The School Board also approved Northfield and Southwood High Schools to join the The Indiana State High School Clay Target League this coming Spring.
