UPDATE: The driver of the fatal crash was identified as Gabriel S. Carson, 45, of Huntington.
Original release: HUNTINGTON COUNTY, IN- The Huntington County Sheriff’s and Huntington County Coroner’s Offices are conducting a death investigation into a single vehicle crash that occurred sometime in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 14, 2022.
The driver of a 2016 Black Chevrolet Silverado was found to be deceased inside the vehicle in a ravine near 4553 West, CR 600 North (SR16).
Passersby spotted the vehicle and notified emergency personnel. Upon arrival, a deputy with the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office discovered the decedent in the driver’s seat, restrained. Evidence would indicate that for reasons unknown, the driver left the roadway while entering a curve and struck a tree with the right front of the truck. The truck continued forward coming to rest with the tree inside the vehicle.
The name of the decedent will be released once family members have been notified.
Alcohol is considered to be a factor in the crash.
The investigation into the crash continues with the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office F.A.C.Team and the Huntington County Coroner’s Office.
