Wabash Police are participating in Operation Belt Up that
starts October 15 and finishes on November 5. Indiana law
requires everyone in the vehicle to wear a seat belt. Children under
eight years of age are required to be in a federally approved child
or booster seat. Motorists are twelve times more likely to be killed
if they are unrestrained. “We see the results of not wearing a seat
belt all the time, and it’s heartbreaking,” said Patrolman Colin
Gouveia. The overtime patrols are paid for the National Highway
Administration funds, administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice
Institute.
