Schools Face 6% Enrollment Decline as County Population Declines by 3% CFWC Study Concludes

WABASH COUNTY, Ind. – The Community Foundation engaged four consultants to assist county schools as they cooperatively work together to offer the best educational opportunities possible for Wabash County students. The five areas of assessment studied in the first phase of the Studies for Advancement were facilities, population/enrollment, academics, county workforce projections, and finances.

Dr. Carol Lindquist, study coordinator and CFWC consultant, will present theresults of the study at three upcoming public meetings:

Wednesday, September 20
Honeywell Center Legacy Hall
12:00 pm    6:00 pm

Thursday, September 21
Central Offices of Manchester Community Schools
6:00 pm

Among the results, it was projected that Wabash County’s population will decrease by 3% between 2015 and 2025. Additionally, the aging of the county is a primary factor that will contribute to the 6% forecasted decrease in school enrollment. Declining enrollment has a compounding impact on all three districts that stresses their capabilities to offer needed academic and extra-curricular programs within available financial resources.

We hope that you will join us during one of these upcoming events!
