Salamonie and Mississinewa lakes to hold free Youth Fishing Derbies, June 3

ANDREWS, IN- Kids ages 2 to 14 and their adults are invited to free Youth Fishing Derbies at Salamonie and Mississinewa lakes, on June 3.

June 3 is an Indiana Free Fishing Day for all State residents.

Youth age categories are: 2 – 5; 6 – 10; and 11 – 14, with first, second, and third-prize winners for largest fish in each age category. The largest fish overall will be awarded a grand prize. Each participant must use bait provided by DNR staff.

Each property will host its own derby, with winners announced at each property. Participants for Salamonie Lake will meet at the Wildlife Management Pond located in Lost Bridge West SRA. Mississinewa Lake participants will meet at Bostwick Pond located in Miami SRA.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Rules and regulations will be announced at that time. Youth fishing time will be 9 – 10:30 a.m. with awards at 11 a.m. Participating youth and their adult must be present to win awards.

On-site fishing education stations will be available for families to visit during the Fishing Derby.

Property entrance fees apply, $7 per in-state vehicle; $9 per out-of-state vehicle. Annual entrance passes are available for purchase.
