Prepare For The Cold

The weather predictions for our area are not looking good for us over the next few days.  As a reminder, check on your neighbors, especially your elderly ones.  Make sure your pets are taken inside.  Non essential travel isnot recommended.  If you must travel, please let your car warm up, clear the windows, and give yourself extra time to reach your destination.  Pack extra clothes, blankets, food, water, cell phone charger, and a flashlight in case you would get stranded.  If for any reason you must be outside use layers of clothing and leave no or minimal exposed skin.  Exposed skin only takes a few minutes to harmful.  If you are in need of a warm place to stay, Parkview Wabash Hospital will be open for a warming center.  If transportation is an issue, the Wabash City Police can be contacted by calling Wabash County Central Dispatch at 260-563-9223.

Please remember that our area is not used to these anticipated low temperatures.  It is likely that your furnace will not be able to keep your house to your normal temperatures.  If you use supplemental heat please be careful.  Do not plug electric heaters into extension cords.  If you use kerosene or gas type heaters make sure you have proper ventilation for the fumes.  As a reminder, using some gas type heaters inside a confined space is not recommended.

Please take the weather advisories seriously and plan ahead.  Taking care of each other and looking out for our neighbors is vital part of our community.  As always if you have an emergency call 911.
