Peru Police Respond to Domestic Dispute

PERU, Ind. – On January 3rd, at approximately 5:15pm, Peru Police officers were dispatched to a residence in Peru to meet with a female in reference to threats being made to her.

Once officers arrived, they spoke with the female.  They found she had come to Peru earlier in the day after being battered by her boyfriend, Daley A. Duso, in Lowell, Indiana.  Through a statement given to police, she advised that Daley had physically battered her earlier the day and had a history of abuse from him.  After battering her, he then told her he was going to kill her, her dog and himself.  He had also threatened to kill her family, who resides in Peru.

Once Mr. Duso discovered she had left, he began to text her throughout the day, totaling more than 50 text messages.  In those texts he made threats to come to Peru, and find her stating, “I will find you tonight or I will die trying.”  He goes to text, “There will be hell for everyone involved.”  In addition to the texts, she also received approximately 20 phone calls from Mr. Duso.  She advised officers that he possesses firearms and body armor.  She further advised he had threatened her in the past, stating he, “Would take her into a field and splatter her brains.”

Through the information given to Peru Police, Officer Colten Pitner contacted Miami County Deputy Prosecutor Jeff Sinkovics.  They were able to get an immediate arrest warrant for Daily A. Duso, 31, for Stalking and Intimidation.

Officer Pitner contacted law enforcement in Lake County at approximately 11:00pm.  Through the use of Lake County SWAT they went to the residence of Mr. Duso.  They found that he had barricaded himself inside his residence.  However, at approximately 1:00am, he was taken into custody.  He was also charged in Lake County with two counts of Intimidation.

“I commend the bravery of this female to come forward.  We know through our training that it is hard for an abused person to break away from the abuser,” stated Peru Police Chief Michael Meeks.  “The swift action of Officer Pitner and Deputy Prosecutor Sinkovics allowed us to put Mr. Duso behind bars and gave our female victim some piece of mind,” stated Meeks.
