PERU,IN (Kokomo-Tribune) – Deputies say a 30-year-old Peru man high on meth smashed out the window of a squad car with his head after crashing his vehicle and fleeing into a wooded area.

Deputies responded to the intersection of 250 South and 300 West at around 10:05 p.m. Monday on a report of a shirtless driver who had crashed his vehicle and ran into a wood along U.S. 31.

Deputies surrounded the area and heard the suspect crashing through the trees. He then ran out from the woods, but fled back in after he saw officers standing nearby, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

Officers eventually located the suspect lying in some tall grass, where he jumped up and tried to flee before being tased. Police said the taser had no effect on the suspect, who continued to flee.

Officers eventually apprehended the suspect, who was identified as Brent Youngblood, and placed him in handcuffs.

As deputies led him to a squad car, Youngblood was “yelling and swearing at officers and laughing, stating, ‘Took you long enough to find me,’” according the affidavit.

Youngblood then became agitated and complained that the cuffs were too tight on his wrists. Deputies placed him in a squad car, where Youngblood began banging his head against the window.

Deputies told him to stop and informed him they would change his cuffs if he calmed down. Instead, he began to yell “abusive language” at officers, according to the affidavit.

When officers shut the door of the squad car, Youngblood again banged his head against the window, causing it to shatter.

Youngblood was removed from the squad car and placed in a transport vehicle with a cage before he was taken to a hospital.

Officers obtained a warrant to pull Youngblood’s blood for an operating-while-intoxicated investigation, during which time deputies heard him say he was under the influence of meth, according to the affidavit.

Youngblood was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, criminal mischief, resisting law enforcement and operating while intoxicated under a controlled substance, as well as a warrant for invasion of privacy.

He is being held at the Miami County jail without bond.
