Parkview Nurse Residency Program receives accreditation

FORT WAYNE, IND. – JUNE 17, 2020 – The Parkview Nurse Residency Program has earned accreditation from the Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP), which sets the global standard for residency programs that transition registered nurses into new practice settings.

The Parkview Nurse Residency Program supports registered nurses who recently graduated and are still in their first year of practice. The 16-month program helps accelerate nurses’ development, create an enhanced patient experience, and improve safety and quality.

PTAP accreditation is granted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), which also grants Magnet® recognition and ensures rigorous standards for nursing excellence. Parkview Health earned Magnet recognition in 2017.

“As a nurse, your first year is critical in shaping your career experience,” said Judy Boerger, chief nursing executive, Parkview Health. “The Parkview Nurse Residency Program was designed to enhance the well-being of our nurses through increased engagement, education and empowerment. We are proud to achieve this recognition of our program as now more than ever, nurses deserve excellence in training and support.”

Each year, approximately 400 nurses from across the health system are enrolled in the Parkview Nurse Residency Program. The monthly seminars are instructed by faculty from area universities, as well as experts from across Parkview departments, including pharmacy, legal, holistic nursing, rehab therapies and public safety.

The PTAP accreditation was granted for all Parkview hospital locations except for Parkview DeKalb Hospital, which joined Parkview Health in October 2019 and will apply for accreditation in the future.
