Officers Arrest Oak Hill Junior High Student for Allegedly Threatening to Kill Others

GRANT COUNTY, IN- Officers with the Grant County Sheriff’s Department (GCSD) arrested an Oak Hill Jr. High student recently for allegedly threatening to kill others.According to GCSD reports, witnesses heard an eighth grade student telling others on Thursday afternoon that they planned to shoot people the next day.The report states that the student was upset over a game in gym class, alleging they stated that they were going to “shoot everyone they do not care about at this school.”Officers interviewed Oak Hill Jr. High Principal Greg Perkins who claims the student has made threats in the past, “but never this severe,” according to the report.According to the report, Perkins suspended the student from school.Witnesses claim the student has threatened to fight other people before, according to the report.Officers stated that one witness said they did not believe the threat was serious and they did not feel fearful after hearing the threat.When officers interviewed the student in question, they claimed they did not say anything about shooting or killing anyone, but instead threatened to hit people.Officers arrested the student and transported them to the Grant County Juvenile Detention Center without incident.They are being charged with intimidation against a school corporation, a Level 6 felony.GCSD Chief Deputy Tim Holtzleiter said people should watch what they say when it comes to making threats.”With the world we live in today, you can’t make those kinds of comments. Times have changed,” Holtzleiter said.Neither Perkins nor Oak Hill Superintendent Joel Martin have responded to media requests at this time.
