NIAM Observed in August

MIAMI COUNTY, IN- August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life. You have the power to protect yourself and your family against serious diseases like whooping cough, measles, influenza, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, cancers caused by HPV, pneumonia and many other diseases with vaccines.

During NIAM, The Miami County Health Department encourages you to talk with your doctor, nurse or other healthcare professional to ensure you, your child and your family are up to date on recommended vaccines.

The Miami County Health Department also encourages you to visit CDC’s interactive Vaccine Guide, (https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/growing/) which provides information on the recommended vaccines during pregnancy and throughout your child’s life. 

As your children head back to school this fall, make sure vaccination is at the top of your checklist. August is also a key time to make sure you are up to date on all vaccines your need to stay healthy. Use CDC’s adult vaccine assessment tool to see which vaccines might be right for you. 

During NIAM the Miami County Health Department will be sharing information and resources throughout the county with assistance of other organizations to highlight the importance of vaccines. 

Miami County Health Department has eligibility requirements of vaccination for children (VFC). Please call 765-472-3901 ext. 1215 or 1216. 

Miami County Health Department does scheduled vaccines typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Occasionally they will offer walk-in vaccinations and those will be announced in advance of date being offered.

Miami County Health Department offers some Travel Vaccines. Call for information on vaccines available, appointment and cost of the vaccines offered.

Miami County Health Department also offers Pregnancy Tdap vaccination at 27 to 36 weeks, call for an appointment.
