MSD of Wabash County School Board Meeting Review

The MSD of Wabash County School Board met to conduct business on Tuesday night. Donations were approved in a total amount of $3,817.70 with an additional $8,685.00 donated towards the Sharp Creek Robotics Team’s trip to the World Championship in Dallas, Texas.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Mrs. Chris Stefanatos, Southwood Elementary Dean of Students, was honored as the recipient of the Staff Spotlight Award. Mrs. Stefanatos was nominated by Southwood teacher Jane Kendall with these words:

“This year Chris stepped into a new role. She has come in with such positive energy and is working very hard to make a profound academic and social impact on our students and staff. She is supportive and cares deeply for our students and staff. She has shown grace and kindness to our students when they need it most. She brings such a wealth of experience to our staff and we are lucky to have her influence each of us. in such a positive way. ”

SCHOOL RECOGNITION

Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week. MSDWC teachers and staff were showered with appreciation from parents, coworkers, and community members. This week is Nurses Week and thanks were shared to the MSD Nurses for all their hard work, especially with all the added duties due to COVID-19 over the last couple of years. 

Northfield Jr./Sr. High School 

Congratulations were shared to the Northfield Jr. High Robotics Team, comprised of members Mason and Logan Lyons, Cody Yeiser, and Logan Graft. They placed 36th out of the top 500 middle school teams in the world last week in Dallas, Texas.

Southwood Jr./Sr. High School

According to US News and World Report, Southwood Junior/Senior High School earned a high national ranking in the 2022 Best High Schools. To be part of this exclusive group, schools are judged upon the number of students taking and passing one or more AP exams, proficiency in standardized tests, and graduation rate. This award is a testament to the hard work of the staff and students at Southwood Junior/Senior High School.

Southwood Junior/Senior High School recognized Katy McClure for coordinating the Knight Flight 5K. As a physical education teacher, Miss McClure regularly speaks of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. The KnightFlight 5K was a fun event to get students outside with the opportunity to run or walk the event. Special congratulations go to James Unger (grade 7) and Jacob Beachler (grade 8) for placing 1st and 2nd respectively.

Southwood High School also recognized the efforts of Mrs. Kari Johnson, Mr. Greg Stetter, and the members of the Student Congress. They organized the 2022 Penny Wars to raise money for Teacher Appreciation Week and helped organize the first annual SHS Carnival.  Students were able to play games, get their faces painted, and participate in other activities after the 5K.
