Miami Correctional Facility honors leaders with Leadership Challenge Awards. Those that were recognized recently include:
Nikki Neal of Kokomo: “Inspire a Shared Vision”- searching for opportunities by seeking innovative ways to change, grow, and improve.
Sergeant Chad Corn of Bunker Hill: “Enabling Others to Act”- this is given to those who strengthen others’ power and discretion.
Officer Lawrence Benson of Peru: “Model the Way”- setting the example by aligning actions with shared values.
Bruce Shaw of Kokomo: “Encourage the Heart”- recognizing contributions by showing appreciation for individual excellence.
Destin McCord of Elwood: “Challenge the Process”- Experimenting and taking risks by constantly generating small wins and learning from mistakes.
The Leadership Challenge Awards were started in an effort to address and recognize positive leadership practices at the facility and came out of a National Institute of Corrections 10-day Correctional Leadership Development training course.  The awards are given quarterly to staff members who demonstrate leadership.
