MCF presents donation to Peru Amateur Circus

MIAMI COUNTY, IN- Business Administrator at Miami Correctional Facility Jamie Moore presented a $1,000 donation to board member and museum curator for the Peru Circus Tim Bessignano. Peru is nationally recognized as the Circus Capital of the World, and home of the Peru Amateur Circus. This year represents the 63rd year of the Peru Amateur Circus. Ironically, several employees at MCF were (or are) involved in the circus including Jamie Moore. Jamie participated in the circus for 5-years while her daughter Kelsey was involved for 15-years.

Every year approximately 200 young people, ages 7 to 21, present ten circus performances during an eight-day festival in mid-July. Kiddie, Junior, Adult Clowns, the ‘Best Circus Band in All the Land, and a huge number of volunteers join to support these talented performers. Their sparkling smiles are only eclipsed by the shine of their sequin-clad costumes. The level of skill belies the fact that they are amateurs. In fact, several performers have gone on to perform with Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus and the Shrine Circus. The circus has also awarded 898 scholarships totaling more than $440,000.

The Peru Amateur Circus is hosting a Miami Correctional Facility night, and all employees and family members are invited to attend. The date and time will be announced in early July.
