MCCF Awards $10,000 Impact Grant to United Way of Miami County

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. – The Miami County Community Foundation (MCCF) awarded a $10,000 impact grant to United Way of Miami County, Inc. for its Miami County Works program. The program is free to the public and was formed to help reduce employment barriers for Miami County residents. The Miami County Works program consists of a two-hour course. The first hour focuses on completion of employment applications, resume writing, appropriate interview attire, identifying professional skills, and practice interviews. The second hour of the course allows participants to use the Peru WorkOne computer lab to apply for employment. Also during the second hour, the Employment Program Coordinator meets with participants individually to discuss employment barriers and to assist in finding ways and resources to overcome those barriers. Before the conclusion of the course, participants learn about other WorkOne resources and opportunities. Follow-up appointments with both WorkOne and the Miami County Works Program Coordinator help ensure that participants are able to gain employment. Some participants are court-appointed to attend Miami County Works. These individuals are provided a second chance at employment through the Miami County Prosecuting Attorney’s office. For more information about impact grants, contact MCCF Director of Development Connie Cutler at 765-475-2859 or by email at miami@nicf.org.
