Marion Man Injured in Grant County Crash 

Marion – This morning at approximately 2:45 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Grant County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash at 1524 South Pennsylvania Avenue, in which a Marion man was severely injured.

The preliminary crash investigation by Senior Trooper A.J. Coffee revealed that Robert Abernathy, 54, Marion, IN was driving a 1997 Ford Contour northbound near 1524 Pennsylvania Avenue. For an undetermined reason, the Ford traveled off the east side of Pennsylvania Avenue, rolled, and hit a tree. The car came to rest on its top.

Abernathy was transported to Marion General Hospital. He was later flown, via medical helicopter, to a Ft. Wayne hospital with internal injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as being a contributing factor in the crash.

Senior Trooper Coffee was assisted by Trooper Adam York, the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, and Grant County EMS.
