MARION, Ind. (WANE) – One man is dead after a crash involving three-vehicles along State Road 9 in Marion.

Around 1:15 Friday afternoon, Indiana State Police and the Marion Police Department were called to a crash on State Road 9 at 33rd Street in Marion.

77-year-old James Penrod of Marion had been driving a 2006 GMC Canyon south along State Road 9, when he bumped the back of a 2018 Chevy Equinox. The driver of the Equinox pulled out of the way to allow Penrod to pass.

Penrod eventually hit a light pole at the intersection of State Road 9 and 33rd street. The crash caused traffic lights to fall onto a 2017 Honda Accord. Penrod was taken to a local hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead. Officers believe he may have suffered a medical issue.

The other two drivers were not hurt. The crash is still under investigation.
