August 18, 2021, Marion, Indiana — Marion’s Center City Neighborhood has the chance to receive a
$25,000 grant towards a new outdoor community space that has been in the works for several months
now.
The Center City Neighborhood in Marion, Indiana is on the verge of receiving a $25,000 grant to build an
outdoor community space that will provide residents with a new recreational park. This project has been
in the works for several months now and it will be completed by four local organizations including The
Grant County YMCA, Hope House Ministry, College Wesleyan Church, and REAL Community Covenant
Church. These organizations have partnered together to increase their capacity, further their reach, and
build back better post Covid-19 through the vision of an outdoor community space. The goal of the
outdoor space is to provide a safe, inclusive, and accessible green space for residents to play, exercise,
and gather together. The space will also create an outdoor location for local organizations like the YMCA
to host off-site services and activities like their summer youth day camp, community cookouts, and
recreational programs.
In response to the idea of getting a new park in the Center City Neighborhood, one resident said, “My
mind just blew up, I’m like ‘this is something wonderful.’ I mean for these kids to be able to experience
an actual nice park to go to…this is a game-changer. I mean a big-time game-changer.”
The project is currently set to take place at 1240 S. Adams Street — the green space owned by REAL
Community Covenant Church. All four organizations are working together to find additional resources to
make the park a reality.

Recently, the collaborative team submitted a proposal to the State Farm Neighborhood Assist grant
competition for the chance to win $25K towards the park, and they made it into the Top 200 finalists.
Now it us up to a competitive round of voting to make it into the Top 40 and receive the $25K.
