NORTH MANCHESTER,Indiana – On The Next Wabash Talks, Jennifer Hotchkiss, Director of the North Manchester Parks and Recreation Department discusses the current state of the town’s five parks.

The Strauss – Peabody Aquatic and Fitness Center, which opened in 2011, falls under the jurisdiction of the North Manchester Parks Department and the large facility is unique in the county due to the indoor pool and large space for regular exercise and fitness classes. The department holds regular zumba classes there, as well as a summer camp for kids looking for something to do during summer break. The pool is, of course, a central focus of the building as it is used by both Manchester High School and Manchester University students.

North Manchester is currently in the middle of a Master Plan update which allows the town to be eligible for grants through the Department of Natural Resources. Accordingly, a public meeting will be held at the Park Board’s next meeting on February 24th at 6 pm at the Strauss – Peabody Aquatic and Fitness Center for feedback and suggestions from residents who have ideas on improving the park system. The public meeting, Hotchkiss added, follows on the heels of a very successful public survey which is also required under the DNR. Hotchkiss on the upcoming improvements the park system as listed in the Master Plan.
