Maconaquah Middle School teacher receives prestigious award from Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution

BUNKER HILL, IN- Maconaquah Middle School teacher Jennifer Lorona recently received a prestigious award from the Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution. Lorona, who has been teaching at MMS for 14 years, received the “Most Outstanding History Teacher Award” and was recognized by the Miami County INDAR chapter last week. She will be honored on the state level in May. Susan Smith, a member of the Miami County DAR chapter recommended Lorona for the award. Smith spent time working with Lorona and her students as part of its Gear Up Program. After seeing Lorona’s teaching style, she decided to nominate her for the award. Lorona is humbled that the INDAR recognized her dedication to history education. Lorona is also excited for the opportunities that will come as a result of the distinction. She said the school year has been “very challenging” for her, but the award “has validated to me that I am truly destined to be in this profession.” She said teaching has always been a dream of hers. Lorona said history and government are special passions of hers because she believes her students should “understand the principles and values that our nation was founded upon.”
