Maconaquah High School put on Lockdown Monday Afternoon

MIAMI COUNTY, IN- Maconaquah High School was put on lockdown Monday “regarding an unfamiliar individual on campus,” according to a message posted on the school’s website. At approximately 1:30 p.m., a dispatcher on the local police scanner said there was a white, shirtless male with red hair in a parking lot at the school with a firearm. The school was immediately locked down.According to school officials, “Shortly after 1:25 p.m., a young male was riding a bicycle on Maconaquah’s campus. The individual was not recognized and had what appeared to be a firearm on his person. It was later determined that it was an Airsoft BB gun.”School buildings were locked down and law enforcement was contacted immediately. Maconaquah Superintendent Dr. James Callane said “All school safety procedures were followed and students and staff reacted quickly and appropriately.” The incident comes less than a week after the school’s first day back from summer break on Wednesday, Aug. 1.
