LAFONTAINE – LaFontaine Clerk-Treasurer Cindy Erbresigned her position effective at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13.

Town Council President Jay Gillespie told the Town Council on Monday that he received a letter from Erb earlier in the afternoon.

“I feel that resigning from my position is best for myself and the Town of LaFontaine,” she wrote. “I will resign at 4 p.m. on August 13, 2018. I hope the Town Council is willing to work with another Clerk-Treasurer more than they have been with me for the best interests of the Town. I also hope that the Town Council will treat the new Clerk-Treasurer with patience to learn this job and with some respect that has never been shown to me by the Council Members or the Town Attorney.”

Wabash County Republican chair Barbara Pearson has 30 days to name a replacement for Erb.

Anyone interested in filling the post must be a resident of LaFontaine and must be a registered Republican, Pearson told the 22 people present. They must present her with a copy of their resume and a cover letter listing why they are interested in filling the position.

Erb has a Deputy Clerk, Deb Gregg. Her fate is not known. Gillespie said he has not heard as to whether she planned to remain in the post.

She hopes to have a replacement named within the next two weeks.

Pearson noted that there has been some animosity between Erband the board, and she urged the board to work with whomever replaces Erb.

Gillespie declined to discuss any animosities after the meeting.
