INDOT Proposing Changing Traffic Patterns of US 31 and Indiana 218

INDIANA – The Indiana Department of Transportation is proposing changing traffic patterns at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Indiana 218 by installing a J-turn – an alternative to traditional roadway intersections that has drawn pushback in some parts of the state. The proposed project would eliminate the traffic light at the intersection, and instead require traffic turning north on U.S. 31 to first travel south for around 650 feet and then make a U-turn into northbound traffic. The proposal in Miami County is still in its infancy, and there are a number of steps that must be taken before construction would begin, including a finalized design and a public meeting. INDOT projects there could be as many as 15 J-turns across the state by 2020.
