Indiana Schools will have access to Handheld Metal Detectors Free of Charge starting next month

Indiana schools will have access to handheld metal detectors free of charge starting next month. Gov. Eric Holcomb’s office announced recently a new initiative to provide handheld metal detectors to all Indiana schools that want them. The Indiana State Police and Department of Administration will coordinate the program and place the first order later this month. All three Miami County Schools will take part in this program. The devices are expected to be delivered mid-August, just after they start the new school year. Additional recommendations to improve school safety are expected in August, when a school safety task force convened by Holcomb is due to report findings in advance of the 2019 legislative session. Schools can submit requests for the metal detectors at IDOA’s website.
