Indiana Adopts New Residential Building Code

INDIANA – The state of Indiana has adopted a new residential building code. The 2020 Indiana Residential Code will take effect on Thursday, December 26, 2019. The Residential Building Code was last updated in 2005, 14 years ago.

Contractors, the 2020 Residential Code will be used for the construction of new houses “started” after December 26, 2019. If you have started building a new house, you can still use the 2005 Indiana Residential Code.

Contractors and homeowners, any remodels and additions started after December 26th, 2019, will need to follow the 2020 Indiana Residential Code.

For the first time in the state of Indiana, a carbon monoxide detector will be required in all new houses, remodels, and new additions built after December 26, 2019.
