Generous End of Year Giving Supports Local Initiatives and Honors and Remembers Family, Friends, and Loved Ones

WABASH COUNTY – The citizens of Wabash County demonstrated their generosity during the fourth quarter of 2021. Gifts from more than 230 individual donors into 78 unique funds combined to total over $2.4 million! Of that total, donors directed $68,000 to support the Unrestricted Good Deeds Endowment, and donors supporting the fundraising campaign for the Waypoint – Wabash County Recovery House Fund contributed more than $440,000!

Many donors also honored or remembered family or friends with a tribute gift. Tribute gifts serve to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries, or to remember and continue the legacy of loved ones who have passed away. Below are the tributes that have been made by caring people like you to various Community Foundation funds from October 1 – December 30, 2021.

In Honor

  • In honor of Jane and Steve Hentgen, The Tennis Ladies gave to the Friendship Hill Playground Endowment, which supports the maintenance and upkeep of Friendship Hill Playground in Wabash, Indiana.
  • In honor of Kendylan & Kellyn Lochner, Chris and Sarah Lochner gave to Waypoint – Wabash County Recovery House Fund, which will help to provide a safe, structured, and stable environment for people recovering from substance use disorder.
  • In honor of Mark Hobbs, Mr. Andrew Dixon gave to the Heartland Learning Center Fundto help with equipment and construction costs for the new Heartland Learning Center facility, which will help adults skill-up in manufacturing and healthcare to meet the needs of the 21st century jobs.
  • In honor of Mary Finnell, Mr. Jim Finnell gave to the Community Foundation Operating Fund to support the work and mission of the Community Foundation.
  • In honor of Sarah Gilbert Goldman and Family, Ms. Linda Robben gave to the Tom Gilbert Memorial Scholarship, which remembers Tom Gilbert and provides scholarships to support Manchester High School seniors.

  • In memory of Allen Deeter, Dr. Wilbur McFadden gave to the Community Foundation Operating Fund to support the work and mission of the Community Foundation.
  • In memory of Angilee Beery, Bob and Rachel Gross gave to the Manchester Early Learning Center Endowment to support the mission and programs of the Manchester Early Learning Center.
  • In memory of Casey Sparling, Mrs. Joyce Gentry, Mr. and Mrs. Terry McLain, and Ms. Kami Ross gave to the Casey Sparling Memorial Athletic Scholarship Endowment, which provides scholarships to Northfield High School graduates who were involved in athletics and share Casey’s positive attitude and commitment to their team.
  • In memory of Cynthia Price, Forrest and Mary Bowers gave to the George W. Price Scholarship Endowment, which supports early award scholarships to 4th grade Wabash City Schools students who meet the Foundation’s Early Award Scholarship program’s reading criteria.
  • In memory of Elizabeth Anne Schilling, Dr. Pam Higgins, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Krouse, Jacob Schrader, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis White, Mr. and Mrs. Mel Sautter, and Anonymous gave to the Strauss-Peabody Aquatic and Fitness Center Endowment, which provides support to the Center to help cover major necessary repairs and replacements to the structure and equipment.
  • In memory of Ethan Fletcher, Mr. Phillip H. Colglazier, Mr. and Mrs. Bill DeWitt, Ms. Leslie Edgar, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hawkins, Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Kleber, Mr. and Mrs. James MacDonald, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Miller, and Christy and Marty Nowlin gave to Waypoint – Wabash County Recovery House Fund, which will help to provide a safe, structured, and stable environment for people recovering from substance use disorder.
  • In memory of George W. Price, Ms. Cristina Costa and Ms. Sara Phillips contributed to the George W. Price Scholarship Endowment, which supports early award scholarships to 4th grade Wabash City Schools students who meet the Foundation’s Early Award Scholarship program’s reading criteria.
  • In memory of Glen and Sally Stanley, Mr. Matt White gave to the Somerset Preservation Fund for community improvement and maintenance of public spaces in this community.
  • In memory of Gloria Garber, Bob and Rachel Gross gave to the Manchester Church of the Brethren Peace and Justice Endowment, which provides support to the Manchester Church of the Brethren for peace and justice activities and education.
  • In memory of Joan Beghtel, Mrs. Diane True gave to the Early Award Scholarship Fund, which supports the Early Award Scholarship Program with the goal of rewarding students for in-school achievements early to encourage persistence in learning, influence future thinking, and build post-secondary resources.
  • In memory of John E. Mort, Peggy and Vaughn Callahan, Manchester Elementary School, the Manchester Teachers Association, and an anonymous donor(s) gave to the Strauss-Peabody Aquatic and Fitness Center Endowment.
  • In memory of John Steven Snyder, Central High School Class of 1953, Mr. John Calvin Funk III and Mrs. Deborah Weaver-Funk, Mr. and Mrs. Kerry Keaffaber, Ms. Martha Lennane, and an anonymous donor(s) gave to the Community Foundation Unrestricted Good Deeds Endowment, which supports the ever-changing needs of Wabash County, especially needs related to advancing the level of educational attainment.
  • In memory of Marti Anne Eckert, Ms. Julie Eckert Clancy contributed to the John L. Eckert Memorial Educational Scholarship Endowment, which remembers Dr. John Eckert and his career in public education and supports students who select an education major.  
  • In memory of MG David L. Harris, Ms. Vicki Harris gave to the Somerset Preservation Fund for community improvement and maintenance of public spaces in this community.
  • In memory of Nancy Yeatter West, Bob and Rachel Gross gave to the Carol Horn Honorary Endowment for Conflict Resolution, which supports efforts to resolve conflict in Wabash County.
  • In memory of Nelda Sue Love, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hettmansperger gave to the Wabash High School Class of 1951 Scholarship Endowment, which provides scholarship to graduates of any Wabash County high school pursuing a two- or four-year undergraduate degree.
  • In memory of Oliver, Mr. and Mrs. David Grant gave to the North Manchester Parks and Recreation Endowment for the creation of the Dog Park in North Manchester.
  • In memory of Rebecca Waas, Dr. David Waas gave to the Community Foundation Operating Fund to support the work and mission of the Community Foundation.
