Erwin L. Detwiler

Erwin L. Detwiler, 95, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, died at 1:30 am, Friday, April 26, 2024, at Timbercrest Healthcare Center in North Manchester, Indiana.  He was born on April 13, 1929, in Goshen, Indiana, to Erwin and Genevieve (Eger) Detwiler.

Erwin was a 1947 graduate of Goshen High School and was a US Air Force Veteran. He married Shirley Claire Whittle in Goshen, Indiana on July 8, 1956; she died June 19, 2012. Erwin retired from General Telephone Co, and also worked for Logansport Municipal Utilities. He was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne, and the Masonic Lodge since 1955. He was also a member of the Toastmasters Club and Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs in the communities where he lived. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed gardening and camping, loved his dogs and being with his family.

He is survived by four children, Michael (Linda) Hamlin of Churubusco, Indiana, Gail (Ron) Bussard of Wabash, Indiana, T. Scott (Cheryl) Hamlin of Columbia City, Indiana, and Stacy (Kevin) Geesaman of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Carol Burridge.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, May 2, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, 110 N. Cass Street, Wabash, with Rev. Nathan Whybrew officiating. Burial will be 2:00 pm Thursday, in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.  Friends may call 5-7 pm Wednesday, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash.

Preferred memorials are Honor Flight or Timbercrest Retirement Community.
