Emergency blood donations needed throughout the state

IN- Versiti Blood Center of Indiana recently issued an emergency appeal for blood donations. With less than a day’s supply of available blood, communities throughout the state face a potential crisis as hospitals may not have the blood needed to treat patients. Versiti saw a significant decline in donations during the holiday season, and the downward trend continues into the new year. Unfortunately, the need for blood does not take a holiday, and they are seeing an uptick in emergency room visits and trauma patients requiring mass blood transfusions, decimating the blood supply. Versiti provides blood and blood products to 100 hospital partners throughout the state. To maintain a safe blood supply, they need 2,900 donors every week.

An upcoming emergency mobile blood drive is open to the public and can be shared with the community:

As they outreach to the community, they graciously ask for support in helping to donate blood in the coming days and weeks. Blood on the shelves TODAY will save lives TOMORROW.
