Intern Spotlight:
The high school intern at Wabash Marketplace is Carly Hawkins, who is a senior at Northfield
High School. Her internship focuses on marketing, event planning, and nonprofit administration.
Carly joins the staff for twelve hours per week. Here’s what Carly thinks about the internship

opportunity, “I am thrilled to be Wabash Marketplace’s intern for this school year! Growing up
in Wabash, I have always enjoyed being involved in my community. This internship lines
directly with my plans after graduation, which include attending college to pursue a degree in
marketing and communications. I am very grateful for Andrea and Kelsey for taking me on as a
part of their team, and teaching me many valuable skills that will help me in my future. Working
with them has been a blast so far, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
MSD of Wabash County is one of many educational establishments in Wabash that offer an
internship program opportunity to their students. Professional Career Internship coordinator, Kari
Johnson, shares how this year has been for the program, “This year’s internship placement
process has been more challenging due to COVID restrictions, especially within the healthcare
industry. However, the Wabash County business community has been incredibly welcoming to
my students, and has extended amazing opportunities to them. My appreciation for these
businesses can’t be expressed enough. Without a community that believes in and supports the
internship program, the program would never be successful. I feel so blessed to be a part of a
community that believes in our youth, and is willing to invest in their futures.”
